Rise and Shine book by Toby Oliver

Why managing your mornings could make your day

Do you rise and shine or do you rise and whine?

It’s important because the way you start your day really matters. Research shows that your morning mood sets the tone for the rest of your day.

What’s more, your morning mood tends to settle in and grow stronger throughout the day.

This means that if you start your day in a foul mood or anxious or angry, you’ll most likely end the day feeling truly terrible. And you can all too easily find yourself caught in a viscous cycle, waking up dreading the start of yet another ‘difficult’ day ahead.

Mornings don't HAVE to be difficult

Good morning clockI see so many of the clients I work with caught in this situation. I have also been there myself.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way. By re-thinking how you start your mornings you can not only improve your days but also start to create the experiences you want.

Even during the toughest of times, having a simple and consistent start to our days can help give us the sense of stability, security and safety we so often need. In turn, these small steps can offer us a foundation from which to discover a pathway through the storm.

I am so passionate about the benefits of a simple morning routine that I decided to write a book on the subject. Rise and Shine – How to transform your life, morning by morning is co-authored with my sister and Chartered Psychologist, Kate Oliver. Like me she knows the profound benefits, personally as well as professionally, of starting your day the right way.

The S.H.I.N.E. method to a great morning routine

Rise and Shine book by Toby OliverWe want as many people as possible to benefit from taking charge of how they start their days using the S.H.I.N.E. method, our flexible and unique approach to building a positive morning routine. It represents the five elements we all need in our mornings to create enhanced wellbeing and success:

  1. Silence – Building silence into your morning brings calm and clarity before entering the busy-ness and noisiness of your day.

  1. Happiness – Moving into your day with a smile improves your physical and mental health, creating greater confidence and resilience.

  1. Intention – Consciously creating your day, rather than letting your day create you, helps you stay purposeful and focused in the face of distractions.

  1. Nourishment – Feeding your mind and spirit as well as your body, gives you the energy and sustenance to flourish throughout the day ahead.

  1. Exercise – Getting your body moving creates strength and flexibility for life’s challenges and opportunities.

Based on the latest scientific research, as well as ancient traditions and insights gathered from decades of personal and professional experience, Rise and Shine offers thirty different practices that will encourage you to curate a routine that blends seamlessly with your lifestyle. Because by changing your mornings, you can change your life.

Rise and Shine – How to transform your life, morning by morning by Kate Oliver and Toby Oliver is available in hardback now, priced £9.99 from wherever you like to buy your books.
