Facing depression is tough – persistent sadness, a heavy burden, and struggling for a brighter tomorrow. If you’re seeking change and wondering how to regain control, know that help is here with our supportive services.
Depression is a common condition that many people face at some point in their lives. It happens when stress and other factors affect how we feel, think, and handle daily activities. Feeling down during tough times or big life changes is normal.
For some, depression shows up as constant sadness, losing interest in things they used to enjoy, and feeling hopeless. These feelings can make it hard to go about daily life, impacting work, relationships, and overall well-being. Noticing these signs early can help in finding the right treatment.
When depression sticks around and makes daily life hard, it’s important to get help. It can feel like the volume on our worries and struggles is turned up too high.
At the Sheffield Wellness Centre, we’re here to help you find ways to manage and overcome depression.
Rooms were very good for therapy. Quiet, warm and comfortable with quality furnishings. Kept very clean and always plenty of clean glasses and fresh water available.
A wonderful calming place on Abbeydale road, with perfectly serene therapy rooms.
I've visited the Centre for a massage and I'm about to begin hiring the rooms myself as a practitioner. The rooms are really beautifully done out, with a lot of care and attention to detail. Richard has been very supportive and helpful in getting registered and started up.
I was embarrassed to open up about the extremity of my comfort eating but Richard made me feel comfortable about it. Even before the weight loss hypnotherapy sessions began he made a difference to my thinking by helping to change my perspective on the issue and see it as something I could get control of. 3 weeks and 3 sessions later and comfort eating has lost its grip on me, I'm making better and more conscious decisions about food and steadily losing weight. Thanks Richard.
i had 1-1 a reiki session with Nadine and it exceeded expectations. parking for the wellness centre on nearby streets was easy, it's easy to find and the therapy rooms are beautiful. i couldn't recommend it enough and will 100% be returning!
Well kept, warm and welcoming rooms. Hot and soft drinks available. It makes therapy sessions a little easier
I had a Reiki session with Nadine, it was so good and Nadine was excellent she took time to explain everything and made me feel comfortable. Good communication and really helpful. So happy with the session I booked straight in for my next.
Booked in for a regression hypnotherapy session with Helen and the experience was absolutely amazing, highly recommended . Helen was like a breath of fresh air , just what I needed, thanks
I've had two massages with Fi at the Wellness Centre 'so far' and both times I've come away feeling like a different person. Fi not only has magic healing hands that make you feel wonderful with every touch, but she treats you with such calm and gentle compassion that this is a really holistic therapeutic experience. Definitely recommend
Super lovely people and place! Lovely rooms, lovely vibe. Great place to have a massage and so well located. Lots of thought and care has gone into making this place as special as it is. Highly recommend. Had a hot stones massage with Fi today. I’ve been floating ever since. Highly recommend. Great way to treat to aching shoulders and neck. I feel renewed x
I had a pregnancy massage with Fi and it was amazing! the centre is a very relaxing place and she had it warm and comfortable for me. Despite her wearing PPE, the gloves didn't affect the feel of the massage and wearing masks made me feel safe. The actual massage was so relaxing and relieved any tension I felt as Fi had asked me where any tension was. I would highly recommend her to any pregnant ladies!
As a complete beginner and not being quite as agile as I'd like I was a bit nervous about attending a Yoga class but while I may be slightly biased given Elisha of Grow Yoga is my daughter I can honestly say I enjoyed every second of her class. She's a beautiful human with a passion and energy that radiates from her. She explains everything perfectly and encourages you to just go at your own pace and enjoy. On each occasion I've been I've left feeling like the world is a much brighter place with a calmness that is rare to feel in this very busy world. If you do have the chance to try one of her classes please take it, you'll fall in love with Grow Yoga
This is a wonderful oasis of calm and positivity tucked away inside a leafy courtyard on Abbeydale Road. The rooms are light, comfortable and tranquil. I always leave feeling brighter than I arrived.
A well laid out and welcoming place, conveniently located on a major route in to the city. Additionally, there is a small cafe for social meetups, before or after a session in the centre.
I have had the most wonderful hypnotherapy session with Fi from the Sheffield Wellness Centre. I knew from previous chats with her that she had the perfect voice and open demeanor for hypnotherapy, and I wasn't wrong. She immediately put me at ease and I was able to open up honestly with her. The session itself was lovely, I went quickly into a trance state and, although it's early days, feel very much that the session was beneficial: I already feel lighter and more in control of the anxiety and other problems I suffer with. The Sheffield Wellness Centre is also the perfect therapeutic space. The therapy rooms are lovely and perfectly suited to a range of therapies and the studio is bright and welcoming. I'm so excited to continue my therapy with Fi and am 100% sure this will give me so much benefit, I can't recommend her and the SWC enough.
This is an amazing space and i am very much looking forward to running regular yoga classes from here. It's a great location in Sheffield and as soon as i walked into the studio i knew i could work from here. Very clean and well maintained space and its obvious a lot of love and care has gone into setting it up.
Lovely venue, I had a Reiki session with Jess. It was my first session with her, she was very welcoming and explain the process in detail. The treatment was wonderful, I felt relax and a sense of joy during the session.I highly recommend Jess and the place to anyone that wants to try Reiki for the first time as she is a very gentle and calm person.
Lovely place! Coasy, beautiful, newly decorated rooms. Easily accesible from Sheffield city centra and Pick District. A lot of qualified therapists with experiences in various disciplines. Highly recommended!
I couldn't recommend Natalia enough! I have been treated by her and her essences for over a year now and we have gone through different levels of healing processes that I needed to go through. The powerful drops prepared for you at the end of the session gives you the extra help that you need to face your challenges... Thank you ever so much Nah! For the healing reiki sessions, the essences treatments and all the generosity and knowledge you bring and mix from your long time experience as a therapist; which makes your sessions unique and rich in love, faith and hope!!!
I met with Richard today to view the treatments rooms and the studio. What a lovely, calming, welcoming and comfortable place, with a generous touch of character! Richard was incredibly helpful and welcoming. I left feeling very excited at the prospect of using the premises for my classes and client sessions.
Lovely peaceful premises, beautifully kept. Run by the most lovely, helpful and friendly people. A great place to come for any type of treatment or to hire the rooms. If only more places were run as well as this one! Fantastic!
Beautiful place. So many different things going on. Peaceful and excellent service.
What a wonderful space! We had a great time at baby yoga, Fi is wonderful. I will be back for more of the lovely things on offer!
I had a wonderful experience with Richard, He is very friendly, I found it really easy to talk to him. He has all the qualities of a Good Hypnotherapist. I would recommend all my friends to him. And trust me it was first time I met him and it was great.
An amazing place to give and receive treatments. Love the space and the people.
The Sheffield Wellness Centre is a place of calm tranquillity, perfect for giving and receiving treatments. Well done to Richard and Fi.
The Wellness Centre has a wonderful Yoga studio, one of the best intimate smaller yoga spaces I have ever used. Absolutey wonderful!
Pamper PartyWhat a great idea! A bit of ‘me time’, in the most wonderfully relaxing surroundings. The Wellness Centre has such a relaxed, homely feel to it - much nicer than my actual home, as it is clean, tidy and welcoming! The atmosphere immediately put me at ease, I absolutely loved having time to chill out, chat and eat cake. Fi is the perfect hostess, making sure that we all had everything we needed, with her wonderful warm and caring manner. It was great to be able to choose what particular treatment or massage I wanted on the day. I surprised myself by trying something new and going for the hot stones massage, and I’m so glad I did. It was amazing, so deep and yet so gentle. It was really nice to experience my massage while listening to everyone else chatting happily, too. I completely recommend this if you are looking for the perfect excuse to have some guilt free time to yourself.
Lovely setting through a beautiful courtyard. Attended daisy birth classes with fi cannot recommend highly enough very informative/supportive/empowering/welcoming
I've been considering hypnotherapy for some time, but have always been slightly sceptical of the claims made about it's efficacy. I spoke to Richard Hennessy, based at the centre, and was so impressed by his knowledge and openness about the process. Combined with the clear information available via the website, I have found the trust I needed to move forward with this treatment.
A really great, welcoming place. Fiona and Richard were really helpful with initial enquiries and the whole experience was straight-forward and pleasant. An oasis of calm! Highly recommended.

Depression can affect people in different ways. Here are some common types:
Atypical depression:
This type involves mood reactivity, where positive events can temporarily lift mood. Additionally, individuals may experience increased appetite, weight gain, excessive sleep, and a heavy sensation in the limbs.
‘Situational’ depression:
Also known as reactive depression, this type is triggered by specific life events, such as the loss of a job, relationship issues, or financial stress. It’s a natural response to challenging circumstances.
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD):
Linked to changes in seasons, particularly during the darker months, SAD brings about depressive symptoms like low energy, irritability, and changes in sleep and appetite patterns.
Postnatal depression:
Affecting individuals after the birth of a child, postnatal depression involves feelings of extreme sadness, exhaustion, and anxiety. It can impact the ability to bond with the newborn.
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD):
This type is associated with severe mood disturbances occurring in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. PMDD involves intense emotional and physical symptoms that significantly disrupt daily life.

Taking care of yourself may be the last thing on your mind when you’re dealing with depression. Nevertheless, introducing small self-care steps gradually can result in significant improvements over time.
Personal care: Take a moment for activities that lift your spirits, whether it’s a soothing bath, choosing clothes that make you feel comfortable, or tidying your surroundings to create a calm, safe space. These small acts contribute to both your physical and mental well-being.
Maintaining basic hygiene: Even during tough times, try to prioritise basic hygiene for its positive impact on both your body and mind. Establish a simple routine for daily tasks like showering, brushing your teeth, and changing into fresh clothes. These little steps provide a sense of structure and achievement.
Sleep hygiene: Make quality sleep a priority for a happier mind. Stick to a consistent sleep schedule, create a calming bedtime routine with activities like reading or listening to soothing music, and ensure a comfortable sleep environment. Quality sleep plays a vital role in managing stress and enhancing your overall mood.
Remember, these gentle steps are here to support you, and it’s perfectly okay to take things one small stride at a time. If you ever feel the need, seeking professional help is a positive and courageous choice.
