Calm, compassionate counselling

Do you feel anxious, unhappy, or stressed? Have you lost a loved one and don’t know how to move forwards. Would it help to have someone listen patiently to your experiences and share different ways of seeing things? We’ll explore your difficulties together to help you make sense of what you’re feeling so that you can move forward.

I’m a mature, qualified counsellor with lots of life experience who’ll offer you compassion, respect and insightful reflection. I work flexibly, in-person, online and walking in 50-minute sessions.

About me

I decided to become a counsellor after helping someone deal with the death of much-loved spouse and a lifetime of supporting people professionally and personally.

You might be feeling confused or dejected, uncertain about the future. We’ll work together so that you feel better equipped to deal with your challenges. I’ll draw on a range of approaches to help us explore your situation compassionately.

I value each person for their own unique identity and have done additional training to work with people who identify as neurodivergent. I’m trauma informed and disability aware and have some training as an end-of-life doula. My four-year training, work in a hospice and as a volunteer listener have all added to my natural empathy for others.

My approach

I offer talking therapy drawing on the person-centred approach and solution-focused brief therapy. I tailor my approach to your own unique needs and can help with a range of different issues. I believe in people’s own resourcefulness and will put you at the centre of our work. I’m unlikely to tell you what to do but I’ll listen carefully, and together we’ll explore what works for you in our sessions, going at your pace. I may suggest things from my training to help focus on particular obstacles.

How can talking therapy help?

Talking therapies help people build their self-confidence, make sense of their situation, cope with loss and bereavement, manage stress and anxiety. Through listening to your story in a calm, supportive way, offering a different perspective and some gentle techniques to manage stress, you’ll feel better able to deal with life.

What can I expect from the first session?

Your first session gives you a chance to ask questions and to see if it feels right to be working with me. There’s no obligation to commit to more sessions but if it feels helpful, we’ll agree on the frequency of further sessions at a time that suits us both. Sessions are in person unless we agree that online would work better for you.

How many sessions will I need?

Some people find one or two sessions enough others feel the benefit over a longer period of time. We’ll usually meet once a week in the first instance and agree to review your progress regularly so that you can decide how to proceed. The sessions are led by you, talking about what you bring each week with reflection and gentle questions from me in response.

If this feels right for you, please get in touch below to arrange a 20-minute initial discovery session.
