Jo Jenkins
Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Hi I'm Jo. Accessing help for yourself can be difficult. I found it difficult too. Having to admit to yourself, let alone anyone else, that you might need to talk to someone is challenging. I want to reassure you I am non-judgemental, empathic and kind. I will be more than happy to have a non-committal chat with you and explore your options. To me our therapeutic relationship is everything.
Specialises in:
As an integrative counsellor I do not believe that a "one size fits all" approach suits everyone. As an integrative psychotherapist I take into account how you feel about yourself and how you function in the world. Dealing with you as a whole person together we can create a bespoke therapeutic approach to meet your needs. You are the expert on you
Can help you with:
Addictive behaviours, bereavement, anxiety, depression, trauma, health related issues (such as chronic pain), menopause, coaching, identity, culture, spirituality, relationships, and stresses at home or work
I am a BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist. I qualified as an integrative practitioner as I felt this enabled me to competently create bespoke plans for my clients. I have had personal experience of specific counselling approaches and they were invaluable to me, at distinct times in my life.
Everyone is unique and so is their lived experience. After 22 years of successfully working at a corporate professional level I resigned. During those 22 years I also left a 20 year domestically abuse relationship, emerged from menopause and completed an 8 month stint in a residential rehab. The counselling I received in rehab saved my life and prompted my career change.
In addition I was also finding my altruistic volunteering, facilitating the Freedom Programme and SMART meetings, was bringing me greater joy and fulfilment. I am, and always will be, in recovery. That gives me a powerful insight into how vulnerable people can be.
Whether society considers them accomplished and successful, they feel burdened with potential or lacking some direction and support, I am hear to listen.
I work in a humanistic way and offer unconditional positive regard, understanding and honesty. I will be myself and hope, with time, that frees you to be your true self. I believe that learning to be kind to ourselves can be difficult and I like to focus on tools to empower you to this end.
My pluralistic approach allows us to fully explore the value and diversity of therapeutic approaches and together we create your individual dynamic therapeutic plan. I look forward to working with you
Why should you choose to work with me?
My life experience brings empathy and understanding. It is OK not to be OK. No judgement. No pre-conceived ideas. We will accept each other as we are in the Wellness Centre, in the now, in the present, mentally and physically. We will relate this to your lived experience and process links between your past, present and explore your potential future.
