I have over 35 years’ experience in talking positively with people of all ages who are having challenges as individuals, couples and families.
I specialise in positive and supportive work with people experiencing difficulties. I’m interested in working with you on your goals, discovering your strengths and finding new ways forward which offer hope and happier times.
I work with people of all ages individually I also work with couples and with families. I’m a qualified systemic psychotherapist with over 35 years’ experience in health and social care. I work with individuals, couples and families, paying attention to the whole context rather than just focusing on individuals in isolation.
I offer three areas of work separately or in combination with each other:
Hello, The World at present doesn't have any standards anymore. So I don't expect anything from anyone. However in this case I spoke to a brilliant and diligent staff member called Sarah. She was incredibly pleasant and knew her job like the back of her hand. My inquiry was dealt with a standard which I would have set myself when I used to work. So very happy to have this very pleasant surprise. Keep up the Good Work. I honestly couldn't speak higher of the service. Thanks Steve
Deborah Chadbourne is an excellent counsellor. She is a good listener who offers subtle and insightful advice. The Wellness Centre is comfortable and well situated along Abbeydale Road.
I've been using the Sheffield Wellness Centre for nearly two years and enjoy the calm, comfortable and friendly feel of the rooms, and the great support from the managers.
I spoke with Richard who was helped me a lot in understanding my situation. He was also generous with his time when the question required longer than the 15mins. Thank you.
They provided excellent advise regarding our 3 children who all have SEN. Richard was very supportive and took his time to give us the best advice possible.
Deborah Chadbourn was an excellent grief counsellor for me. It is five years since my first wife died, and we explored how I am feeling now, and how to navigate new and old relationships while remaining true to everything from the past. Deborah is a great listener, and provides good challenge and advice. The venue worked well for me, as did the evening appointments. Thank you!
Shabana is one of those rare people who truly listens and understands without judgement. Her support came at a time when life felt overwhelming, and she helped me slowly rebuild my confidence and sense of self. I always left each session feeling lighter, calmer, and more grounded, and the tools she shared continue to help me every day. She helped me piece myself back together and reminded me that healing doesn’t mean becoming someone new — it means rediscovering who you’ve always been. I feel like my old self again, only stronger and more at peace. I can’t thank her enough.
My reki session was relaxing in a lovely environment . I really benefited from it and had a great nights sleep. Highly recommend.
Lovely mixture of reiki and creative life coaching from Jemma Rosenthal. Found the reiki very grounding and healing and the life coaching helped me navigate a difficult period of change and to clear some blocks in my life.
I am looking forward to offering homeopathy from Sheffield Wellness Centre. The rooms have a lovely relaxing feel and they are lovely and clean. Sheffield Wellness Centre is conveniently situated with on street parking and bus access.
Our work group recently had a Wellness Day and we were able to book Jemma Rosenthal and Ranaa Farooq from the Sheffield Wellness Centre for an instructional workshop. I have since received excellent feedback from group members. Jemma and Ranaa provided a very lively and well-coordinated session. We were able to cover topics such as Visualisation in a systematic manner. All along, attendees were impressed with the passion and interest displayed by both presenters. As an audience, we were certainly captivated. I can wholeheartedly recommend Jemma and Ranaa for any future events.
I had 2 sessions with Kim but to be honest after the first I was totally stress free her ability to remember all the people involved shoed her compasion I am so grateful and have slept like a log ever since thankyou ❤️
Charlotte is totally my medicine, she is amazing and iv been seeing her for various things and she has solved them. Cant recommend her or the Centre enough its very private, clean and relaxing. Thank you
Came to have my session with Jemma Rosenthal here. The restrooms are so clean. There are steps that one needs to be careful of once you get onto the first floor. Fabulous place other than that, just wish it had a lift. Regarding my session: Oh wow, where do I start?! Even before meeting Jemma, i've felt at ease as there is something with the way she talks, which is so calming and reassuring. My first session was exhaustive, but I loved it. I enjoyed the relaxing Reiki in the end. She tells me that I need to tell her when I am feeling tired of talking about my depressive past and that she can approach a different way of therapy. This feels so liberating because she is basically willing to tailor the session for YOUR needs. She is a wise lady. Though she is younger than me, she is very caring, intelligent and as I said a wise person. I am so happy that our paths crossed and she is helping me come out of my bad phase. I came home and was so relaxed (I was singing freely and my husband noticed a change in the way I sing it was excellent)... I've been happy and been chuckling which is so not like me but the sad phase is jutting out of my system. I've had other private sessions for depression but wanted someone to coach my life who understands anxiety and depression. I don't remember how I found her online but glad that I did!! -Sharvani ♡☆♡ She's truly a Gem... Jem✨
I met Richard today with a view to hiring the rooms for children's Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and spacious the rooms were. The space was light and tidy and Richard was extremely welcoming and goes the extra mile for therapist. Providing web support, pages on Sheffield wellness site for all therapist. Support at gaining clients. The place is easily accessible to Sheffield and the Peak District. Highly recommended.
A beautiful little haven tucked behind a busy street. Convenient to get to, the rooms are cosy and quiet - with a wealth of practitioners offering their skills. Its outdoor space holds a community feel with a neighbouring cafe and quirky shops to browse after a treatment.
Rooms were very good for therapy. Quiet, warm and comfortable with quality furnishings. Kept very clean and always plenty of clean glasses and fresh water available.
A wonderful calming place on Abbeydale road, with perfectly serene therapy rooms.
I've visited the Centre for a massage and I'm about to begin hiring the rooms myself as a practitioner. The rooms are really beautifully done out, with a lot of care and attention to detail. Richard has been very supportive and helpful in getting registered and started up.
i had 1-1 a reiki session with Nadine and it exceeded expectations. parking for the wellness centre on nearby streets was easy, it's easy to find and the therapy rooms are beautiful. i couldn't recommend it enough and will 100% be returning!
Well kept, warm and welcoming rooms. Hot and soft drinks available. It makes therapy sessions a little easier
Super lovely people and place! Lovely rooms, lovely vibe. Great place to have a massage and so well located. Lots of thought and care has gone into making this place as special as it is. Highly recommend. Had a hot stones massage with Fi today. I’ve been floating ever since. Highly recommend. Great way to treat to aching shoulders and neck. I feel renewed x
I had a Reiki session with Nadine, it was so good and Nadine was excellent she took time to explain everything and made me feel comfortable. Good communication and really helpful. So happy with the session I booked straight in for my next.
Booked in for a regression hypnotherapy session with Helen and the experience was absolutely amazing, highly recommended . Helen was like a breath of fresh air , just what I needed, thanks
I've had two massages with Fi at the Wellness Centre 'so far' and both times I've come away feeling like a different person. Fi not only has magic healing hands that make you feel wonderful with every touch, but she treats you with such calm and gentle compassion that this is a really holistic therapeutic experience. Definitely recommend
I had a pregnancy massage with Fi and it was amazing! the centre is a very relaxing place and she had it warm and comfortable for me. Despite her wearing PPE, the gloves didn't affect the feel of the massage and wearing masks made me feel safe. The actual massage was so relaxing and relieved any tension I felt as Fi had asked me where any tension was. I would highly recommend her to any pregnant ladies!
As a complete beginner and not being quite as agile as I'd like I was a bit nervous about attending a Yoga class but while I may be slightly biased given Elisha of Grow Yoga is my daughter I can honestly say I enjoyed every second of her class. She's a beautiful human with a passion and energy that radiates from her. She explains everything perfectly and encourages you to just go at your own pace and enjoy. On each occasion I've been I've left feeling like the world is a much brighter place with a calmness that is rare to feel in this very busy world. If you do have the chance to try one of her classes please take it, you'll fall in love with Grow Yoga
This is a wonderful oasis of calm and positivity tucked away inside a leafy courtyard on Abbeydale Road. The rooms are light, comfortable and tranquil. I always leave feeling brighter than I arrived.
A well laid out and welcoming place, conveniently located on a major route in to the city. Additionally, there is a small cafe for social meetups, before or after a session in the centre.
I have had the most wonderful hypnotherapy session with Fi from the Sheffield Wellness Centre. I knew from previous chats with her that she had the perfect voice and open demeanor for hypnotherapy, and I wasn't wrong. She immediately put me at ease and I was able to open up honestly with her. The session itself was lovely, I went quickly into a trance state and, although it's early days, feel very much that the session was beneficial: I already feel lighter and more in control of the anxiety and other problems I suffer with. The Sheffield Wellness Centre is also the perfect therapeutic space. The therapy rooms are lovely and perfectly suited to a range of therapies and the studio is bright and welcoming. I'm so excited to continue my therapy with Fi and am 100% sure this will give me so much benefit, I can't recommend her and the SWC enough.
This is an amazing space and i am very much looking forward to running regular yoga classes from here. It's a great location in Sheffield and as soon as i walked into the studio i knew i could work from here. Very clean and well maintained space and its obvious a lot of love and care has gone into setting it up.
Lovely venue, I had a Reiki session with Jess. It was my first session with her, she was very welcoming and explain the process in detail. The treatment was wonderful, I felt relax and a sense of joy during the session.I highly recommend Jess and the place to anyone that wants to try Reiki for the first time as she is a very gentle and calm person.
Lovely place! Coasy, beautiful, newly decorated rooms. Easily accesible from Sheffield city centra and Pick District. A lot of qualified therapists with experiences in various disciplines. Highly recommended!
I couldn't recommend Natalia enough! I have been treated by her and her essences for over a year now and we have gone through different levels of healing processes that I needed to go through. The powerful drops prepared for you at the end of the session gives you the extra help that you need to face your challenges... Thank you ever so much Nah! For the healing reiki sessions, the essences treatments and all the generosity and knowledge you bring and mix from your long time experience as a therapist; which makes your sessions unique and rich in love, faith and hope!!!
The Wellness Centre has a wonderful Yoga studio, one of the best intimate smaller yoga spaces I have ever used. Absolutey wonderful!
I met with Richard today to view the treatments rooms and the studio. What a lovely, calming, welcoming and comfortable place, with a generous touch of character! Richard was incredibly helpful and welcoming. I left feeling very excited at the prospect of using the premises for my classes and client sessions.
Lovely peaceful premises, beautifully kept. Run by the most lovely, helpful and friendly people. A great place to come for any type of treatment or to hire the rooms. If only more places were run as well as this one! Fantastic!
What a wonderful space! We had a great time at baby yoga, Fi is wonderful. I will be back for more of the lovely things on offer!
Beautiful place. So many different things going on. Peaceful and excellent service.
I had a wonderful experience with Richard, He is very friendly, I found it really easy to talk to him. He has all the qualities of a Good Hypnotherapist. I would recommend all my friends to him. And trust me it was first time I met him and it was great.
An amazing place to give and receive treatments. Love the space and the people.
The Sheffield Wellness Centre is a place of calm tranquillity, perfect for giving and receiving treatments. Well done to Richard and Fi.
Pamper Party What a great idea! A bit of ‘me time’, in the most wonderfully relaxing surroundings. The Wellness Centre has such a relaxed, homely feel to it - much nicer than my actual home, as it is clean, tidy and welcoming! The atmosphere immediately put me at ease, I absolutely loved having time to chill out, chat and eat cake. Fi is the perfect hostess, making sure that we all had everything we needed, with her wonderful warm and caring manner. It was great to be able to choose what particular treatment or massage I wanted on the day. I surprised myself by trying something new and going for the hot stones massage, and I’m so glad I did. It was amazing, so deep and yet so gentle. It was really nice to experience my massage while listening to everyone else chatting happily, too. I completely recommend this if you are looking for the perfect excuse to have some guilt free time to yourself.

This work is based on systemic psychotherapy which means I view you in the context of your important relationships, connections and history.
What kind of individual therapy do I offer?
Although I’m meeting with you individually we can explore the wider relationships in your life rather than just focus on you as an individual. We can explore and understand together how your past experiences might affect the present, look at successful patterns in your life and I can learn about your strengths and how we can use these to tackle the difficulties. It may be that you feel stuck in unhelpful patterns of relationships with family and friends and we can create a new story of hope and change.
I can meet people of all ages for one-to-one face-to-face sessions at the Sheffield Wellness Centre. Alternatively if you prefer we could meet for online sessions or a combination of face-to-face and online.
Some examples of the people I help include the following:
My sessions always involve strengths-based approaches, the strengths can be used to tackle the difficulties and I aim to boost your confidence, self-esteem and empowerment to tackle any difficulties. I provide a safe space for you to talk about and express emotions in a non-judgmental and supportive space. Our work is confidential. I use Narrative and emotionally focused conversations and Solution Focused brief therapy. I also offer non-violent resistance to help identify support networks, prevent escalation of difficulties between family members and promote connection between people. Together we can find ways forward to resolve or manage difficult situations in more helpful ways.
Therapy options
If you’re interested in the therapies I offer I invite you to telephone or email me to arrange a free 15 minute telephone conversation to see if we are a good match to work together. I will respond to this contact promptly and during this free call explore with you what you hope to gain from therapy and answer your questions. If we agree to go ahead I will send you some simple documents to agree and then we can arrange to meet either face to face or online or both. I offer both short and longer term therapies depending on your requirements I use rooms at a Wellness Centre in Sheffield and offer online therapy locally, nationally and further afield. Sessions usually last 50 minutes and can be arranged weekly, fortnightly or at longer intervals depending on your requirements, we can adapt sessions to meet your individual needs for example sometimes children and young people might like to use drawing and play approaches. We can tailor our therapy to your individual preferences. We can invite other people to join us if you wish or continue to work individually.
How does therapy work?
If I’m working with you individually I’ll ask you questions to explore the whole context of your life rather than see you in isolation this might include your history and patterns of relationships with other people. This holistic focus offers more possibilities to find strengths and patterns to manage problems and achieve change. Rather than giving advice I use curiosity to explore your situation with you together and find ways forward from stuck situations. We can also develop strategies together for example to manage a teenage daughter or a day at school. We can use your strengths to manage the difficulties for example by looking at your daughter’s successes.
What happens in a therapy session or appointment?
At our first session there is a process of me getting to know you and your situation and exploring your whole situation. As our sessions progress we can begin to develop goals and measure progress on those goals. Sessions I offer provide a safe space for us to explore and express the strong emotions and feelings which can often arise in life. I seek to understand your strengths, wishes and feelings and build your confidence and self-esteem.
Who can benefit from the therapy?
Individual therapy can help with a range of difficulties including anxiety, overwhelming emotions, relationship difficulties and managing complex family situations. It offers a safe space to reflect on life and its challenges following important events such as separation, divorce, bereavement other problems. Conditions I work with include depression and anxiety, eating disorders and low self-esteem. I work with people from diverse backgrounds and value their individual uniqueness and differences based on gender, race, religion, sexuality and ability and other forms of difference. Much of my work involves helping people manage strong emotions and attachment theory is useful here including supporting those with insecure attachments. A lot of my work also involves supporting families with children or others with additional needs for example anxiety about attending school. I also support individuals in dealing with separated partners in developing a joint approach to managing their child. I work with a range of child and adult mental health problems including anxiety, ADHD, autism, depression, self-harm, attachment difficulties, school difficulties, parenting, phobias, bereavement and eating problems. I aim to empower people to manage these conditions.
My approach
My approach is holistic, inclusive, strengths-based, supportive and collaborative.
How many sessions are needed and how long are they?
Sessions are usually 50 minutes, the number of sessions required is flexible and depends on progress on your goals and I offer short, medium and longer term work.
What can you expect at the end of the process?
Together I aim for us to achieve an improved understanding of your situation and ways to manage it. We may not be able to completely solve all the problems but we can develop improved ways to understand and manage them.
What kind of couples therapy do I offer?
I offer couples therapy based on systemic family therapy which involves viewing the difficulties you are having as a couple in the wider context of family and other relationships.
I use emotionally focused therapy to understand how attachment patterns could be affecting your relationship and I seek to achieve strengthen the emotional bonds in your relationship.
I use behavioural couples therapy to address unhelpful patterns of behaviour.
I use narrative therapy to build on strengths and develop new positive future stories together.
My approach to therapy is collaborative and based on your goals I also use solution focused therapy to measure and evaluate these goals.
What packages and treatment options are available?
If you’re interested in the therapy I offer I invite you to contact me by email or telephone to arrange a mutually convenient free 15 minute telephone conversation to discuss if the kind of couple therapy I offer would be a good match for you. This call also offers the opportunity for you to ask questions. If we go ahead I ask you to agree to my terms of business then we can arrange mutually convenient sessions either face-to-face in Sheffield or online or a combination of both online and face-to-face.
We can agree the frequency of how often we should meet, for example weekly, fortnightly or at longer intervals to suit your requirements. I can meet you together as a couple or you can meet me from separate locations online. My approach is flexible and I can meet either one of you individually if this would be useful.
How does therapy work?
In our first session I will spend some time understanding your relationship including important events, patterns of behaviour, emotions and other factors that might be affecting the relationship such as work, children or stress from mental health issues.
In the second phase of our work we can establish goals and preferred ways of conducting your relationship, this might involve examining difficult episodes and ways to prevent difficult patterns becoming stuck and developing new pathways.
In the third phase of our work we can review progress with the goals and begin to make lasting changes to strengthen relationships and reduce stress and unhelpful patterns and increase support and connection in your couple relationship.
What happens in a therapy session?
In all of our sessions I will be interested in strengths and successful patterns, therapy sessions offer a safe place for you to express and explore strong emotions together. It is often these emotions which have led to you seeking therapy. Our sessions also offer the opportunity to explore intimacy and your sexual relationship if you wish and to improve communication and strengthen the bonds of your relationship.
We can make connections with past experiences, for example explore the effect of your childhoods on your couple relationship.
Who can benefit from the therapy?
If you are experiencing communication difficulties, disagreements or where distance has come between you and your partner then you may wish to consider couple therapy sessions. It could also be that you or your partner or family member is experiencing a mental or physical health condition that is placing pressure on your couples relationship.
I offer couples work where communication has become difficult and where distance has come into your couples relationship. I also offer sessions where there may be cultural differences affecting your relationship or other stresses such as financial or wider family expectations. There might be differences you are navigating connected with sexuality or gender-orientation or where as a couple you are having challenges arising from divorce, bereavement or blended families or where there is high expressed emotion in your relationships.
My approach
My approach is to offer a confidential, warm and accepting space where emotions can be expressed safely and where differences are respected and welcomed rather than focus on the individual psychology of either partner alone. We can look at the wider context of family relationships and pressures on the relationship if these are relevant with a view to empowering you and boosting your confidence as a couple and regaining some connection and calm. I’m always collaborative in the sessions I offer and welcome feedback about our work so the process should feel like teamwork.
How many sessions are needed and how long are they?
The number of sessions very much depends on progress on your goals and your preferences as a couple. I can offer short, medium and longer term work as required and requested.
What can you expect at the end of the process?
Couples therapy sessions with you should deliver some strategies to manage difficult or unwanted patterns of behaviour, establish some calm and fuller understandings of each other within your relationship, improved communication and a closer connection between you. We can also look at strategies to manage competing demands you may be balancing alongside your relationship.
What is Family Therapy?
This is a way of working which helps those in close relationships better understand and support one another by expressing and exploring emotions and thoughts in a safe environment, this enables family members to appreciate one another’s needs and build on family strengths to make useful changes in their family functioning.
Therapies I offer
When we work together my approach is always collaborative meaning that we talk together about the situation and best ways to manage it, almost like a team.
I use narrative therapy which identifies successful stories in your life and uses these to achieve change and preferred futures.
I offer solution focussed therapy which enables us to identify goals and how to achieve them.
I use attachment informed therapy to understand closeness and distance in family relationships, how these might relate to past histories and how we can manage this, for example insecure attachments, going forward.
I use parenting and non-violent resistance (NVR) approaches to support you in the challenging task of raising children, especially those with additional needs in co-operation with partners, family members and support networks.
Therapy options
In offering to work with you I am always flexible for example it might be that I can meet with you with different members of the family at different times according to your wishes and requirements.
How does family therapy work?
If you’re interested in family therapy sessions with me I invite you to contact me by email or telephone to arrange a free 15 minutes telephone conversation to see if the kind of therapy I offer would be helpful. If we go ahead I can then ask you to agree to a simple contract for working and then we can arrange sessions at mutually convenient times, either face to face in Sheffield or in combination with online therapy, alternatively we can do just online therapy if that is preferable.
I’m flexible about which family members are invited or included in the work which can vary at different times during our involvement.
In our sessions we can explore together the family relationships and sources of difficulties as well as successful stories. It is an opportunity for all family members to express their thoughts and feelings in a safe way and to be understood.
I use curiosity to explore and get to know your family, a process known as ‘joining’ and together we can devise goals and collectively measure progress with these goals and thereby achieve change in your family functioning.
What happens in a session or appointment?
We can typically understand the goals of each family member and look at helpful patterns such as times when family members connect well and try to work on more difficult aspects such as patterns where people leave the family or if there is high expressed emotion or conflict. Through the process of listening and talking together the hope is that the family will use its own strengths to understand and manage the difficulties with the assistance of the therapist.
Who can benefit from family therapy?
There is evidence that family therapy can be useful to help with a number of different conditions and mental health issues in both children and adults.
My approach is to offer a warm, accepting, non-judgmental confidential space to explore and get to know your family and your history, goals and expectations. This in turn can bring about change in some of the less helpful patterns by building on the strengths and successful stories that you bring.
As with my individual and couples work appreciation of diversity and difference is central to my approach and understanding of the effects of differences including gender, race, ability, sexuality and class and how these may organise family life.
How many sessions are needed and how long are they?
Usually I offer 50 minute sessions however if there are several family members joining us then we can agree to a double session to enable all voices to be heard sufficiently.
The duration of the therapy can vary from short to medium and longer term work depending on the extent to which we can achieve progress on the goals and the complexity of the issues we are addressing.
What can you expect at the end of the process?
At the end of the process I would expect greater understanding of each family members views, feelings, preferences and emotions and some useful strategies to manage the difficulties going forward by harnessing your strengths and successful patterns.
